The author

Originally from the Lesser Antilles, Joshua Servier grew up surrounded by maritime tales and legends, populated by fantastical, aquatic creatures. Among them, mermaids, essential figures of Caribbean folklore, to whom he is particularly attached. It was this fascination that led him, two years ago, to embark on the production of Cheveux Mouillés.

This project was born from his questioning of representation and diversity in children's literature and various multimedia media aimed at young people. Although things are changing, he notes that works featuring characters of color or racialized characters are still too rare.

Convinced that it is essential for children to see heroes who resemble them, from diverse origins and cultures, he works through his creations to enrich their imagination and offer them strong figures of identification.

Giant steps to change the world

YOU.ARE. CAPABLE. “To you who will read the story of these men and women who fought to defend their ideas, who sacrificed everything in the name of love and passion, who went where no one had gone before them, you have within you what it takes to be like them. No need to be the strongest or the bravest, you just have to believe strongly enough in something and make it happen despite the obstacles. You will have to do what these people did before you: jump over the first hurdle, write the first word, paint the first canvas. Take the first step. There is already a hero within you, you just have to know it.”

For 8-13 year olds

OmaxBooks

OmaxBooks was born out of frustration, but above all, out of a vision: to make the most inspiring and motivating books from the United States accessible to French-speaking readers.

Passionate about biographies and essays by major American cultural figures, Alexis Onestas, a multi-entrepreneur and avid reader, has often encountered a problem: why do these books, which change lives across the Atlantic, remain inaccessible in France? A simple exchange with American publishing houses was enough to understand the reality: these works are not translated because no French publisher is interested in them.

Rather than accept this absence, Omaxbooks decided to take on the challenge independently.
